Doing Things Wrong

Danelectro Longhorn Guitar (2/2)

"The Pumpkin"

Automotive acrylic lacquer is not as awful as nitrocellulose, it has much less propensity to simply self-destruct, and this guitar has held up pretty well. Stay far away from nitrocellulose, it is antique garbage.

Sometime around 2015, while I wasn't paying attention, Danelectro snuck this out. Mine is the original. In fact, I sent them a picture of it years ago, and probably gave them the idea.

Cabinet-grade plywoods are ideal for guitar faces. Maple, birch, oak, and many other woods are available from your local home supplies store. For hollow-body faces, 1/4" plywood or thinner is used. When using plywood for faces, you must take care not to sand through the surface ply.
