WordPress makes it so damned easy to embed YouTube videos.

Finally, a seven-string I can see the point of. This makes more sense than a double-neck. This guy has a lot of very entertaining videos and he's a hell of a player.

I actually had this album, what a blast from the past!

Who remembers the Monkees? When I was a little kid, this show was in syndication every day after school. I loved the slapstick. At the end of every episode was a music video that I didn't really appreciate then. Here is the intro to the show:

Hurrian Hymn No. 6

The oldest known melody - circa 1400 B.C. That drone note starts to drill into your head after a while.

I make no excuses or apologies.

still love this bass line

What is that skinny white guy doing in Bruno Mars' video?

He's not doing it here, but Bruno Mars can play pretty much any instrument you throw at him. He's like an even-smaller version of Prince.

Did I just ruin ze mood again?

Another weird music video for you. They had a cool website with lots of great stuff, but alas it's gone now, replaced by stupid Facebook. I despise Facebook, I can't wait for the day when they go the way of MySpace.

To my mind, there are three kinds of "mash-up": functional, constructive, and stylistic.

  • functional mash-up changes the purpose of the base instrument, for example, building a bass on a guitar body. The Uke bass takes this to an extreme.
  • constructive mash-up is building a classic design in a different way, for example, substituting masonite and plywood for rare and expensive "tonewoods" ( most of which are in truth neither rare nor expensive, although you can pay a lot for them if you shop in the right places. )
  • stylistic mash-up consists of taking features from two or more different instruments and jamming them together. For example, horns on a violin body.
