Morgan James
This is what happens when you turn
an opera singer loose on a pop song

PMJ is more of a collective than a band, with a constantly-changing roster of singers and musicians. What is constant is band leader and pianist Scott Bradlee, and the retro style. There is a ton of stuff on YouTube, these are some of my favorites.

Since Gargle keeps track of everything, I like to keep track of them. So I added some 'instrumentation' (code) to the site to keep track of when and where their 'spider' comes snooping through. And I was shocked. Even as I was writing the code, I started collecting hits from Gargle, and quite a few. In fact, they seem to be in here every few minutes !

I was so into Rush when I was a teenager. Not one of those people who followed them around, but I saw them several times in the eighties. That's why I have this thing:

I never knew the lyrics to this song. Who can understand Australians anyway? They barely speak English. Just watch Braveheart and try to figure out what the hell is going on. To me, this song was always "Back in Black ... random hollering ... Back in Black ... etc." Which is fine, it's a great song. But she's actually pronouncing words. I'm not even sure she speaks English, she's probably doing it all phonetically with cue cards. But she sure has great enunciation.

Years ago I wandered into the local Border's bookstore, and this CD was playing - Michael Hill's Blues Mob. I asked the kid what it was, and bought a copy right there. I'll bet you've never heard of this band.

This is the worst interview I have ever seen. Paul Shaffer never shuts up. Poor Donald Fagen can hardly get a word in edgewise. I am surprised Fagen didn't walk out. If he gives a two-word answer, Shaffer will interrupt it. Forget about finishing a sentence, or even starting one! Shaffer continually talks over his guest, and plays over him too. When Fagen finally tells him how much fun it wasn't (19:53), Shaffer doesn't even notice, just keeps blathering on. Incredible - that's narcissism.

The subject of capacitors in guitars is rife with fraud and nonsense. The fact is, the capacitor is not IN the signal path, it is very much OUT of it, and only has any effect when you select it, which is probably pretty seldom. The capacitor is part of a low-pass ( or rarely high-pass ) filter, basically a frequency-dependent leak to ground. It is not making 'tone', it is taking it away. The type of capacitor that you use for this really doesn't matter at all, as long as you don't use a polarized one the wrong way. Orange Drop, oil-in-paper, film, ceramic -- makes no difference. Anyone who claims it does either has a very vivid imagination or is trying to sell you something.
