Doing Things Wrong

Tomorrow Never Knows

Since I mentioned it in the last post … Sir Paul getting a lot of mileage out of one note. I wonder if Geddy Lee or Les Claypool could pull this off?
Well, whaddayouknow ! Nope ! Les is doing alright, but Geddy is messing it up royally. Come on, man, show some self-restraint! I guess he picked the wrong week to quit smoking drinking amphetamines sniffing glue.
What the heck is this? At least the band is playing it right.

The more I think about it, the more that second video bugs me. Geddy is a pro, he should be able to play that bassline, it's not that hard. I want to see another video where he plays that song right, while simultaneously singing and making weird noises with his sneakers. I'm sure Alex would be happy to help on guitar (or sneakers.) Should take about two minutes to program up a drum machine, and just as well. I don't think Neil would have made it through the whole thing without having a fit on the rototoms. Somebody start a write-in campaign - we need to see this.

Ten bucks is ten bucks.
Beauty, eh?
Take off!

Well, I ordered up one of these headless bridges for about $60 shipped, and after three weeks, here it is:

As you can see, I disassembled one of the gear mechanisms. The one-piece gear and spool appear to be solid brass, held in the bracket with a c-clip. The gears actually work surprisingly well, smooth, with just a little slop that would disappear under string tension. Everything is also lubricated, which I did not expect from China. I am surprised, the quality of materials and design of this unit is much better than I expected. You can see how the knobs pull out on the shafts for easier adjustment.
